Elon Musk establishes the xAI business to compete with ChatGPT

Elon Musk on Wednesday unveiled xAI, a brand-new artificial intelligence business with the goal of "understanding reality."

"Today we declare the establishment of xAI. Understanding the real nature of the cosmos is the aim of xAI, according to the website of the firm.

The newly formed business, which is independent of X Corp, will be run by Mr. Musk.

Other startup members have prior experience working with companies like DeepMind, OpenAI, and Google Research, among others. The business said that on Friday, it will have a Twitter Spaces session on the subject.

According to the fictional supercomputer Deep Thought in Douglas Adams's classic science fiction series, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the date July 12, 2023, equates to 42, which is the answer to the "Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything." Mr. Musk appears to have chosen this date to announce the launch of xAI

The new team will get advice from Dan Hendrycks, head of the Centre for AI Safety.

According to a state document, Mr. Musk's creator registered the moniker X.AI Corp in Nevada.

The creator of Tesla entered the AI industry for the first time in 2015 when he cofounded OpenAI. In 2018, he departed the business, alleging a possible conflict of interest with Tesla.

Since then, he has criticized OpenAI and spoken out against the risks of AI.

He most recently joined a group of tech sector heavyweights who demanded that "large AI experiments" be put on hold by AI laboratories for at least six months while safety measures be developed.

In April, Mr. Musk also stated that he will introduce "TruthGPT," or a "maximum truth-seeking AI," to discover the nature of the cosmos.

At the time, Mr. Musk declared his intention to develop an AI platform to compete with ChatGPT and ventures of a similar nature from Microsoft and Google.
